Discovering my passion….
Growing up in a small Yorkshire town, I’ve always felt a deep connection to animals. Our first dog, a sassy Jack Russell terrier, taught me about loyalty and unconditional love. With our second, a faithful black Labrador, showing me the true emotional support a dog can offer in the harder times we all can face. As I grew older, my fascination expanded to wildlife. Documentaries opened my eyes to the beauty and resilience of nature, sparking a desire to learn about conservation. Volunteering at shelters deepened my love, as I witnessed the transformations of abandoned animals and the joy of their adoptions. Animals have taught me empathy and the value of connection. They remind me to appreciate life’s simple joys — a sunny day, a gentle breeze, or a furry friend curled up beside me.
This captivation with both the physical and emotional beauty of the natural world, became the ultimate driving force for the creation of my own artistic style. I draw inspiration from the natural world, using it as a creative outlet to highlight the beauty of ecosystems and the urgency of protecting them. From breathtaking landscapes to intricate wildlife portraits, I’ve discovered that art can evoke emotion and raise awareness about the need for conservation, in which I have always felt truly invested.
Initially I began working solely with acrylic paint, but quickly discovered that the unpredictability of watercolours could lead to surprising effects and allowed for more spontaneous, expressive creativity. This new medium immediately allowed me to capture the beauty and essence of wildlife in a soft, fluid nature that brought each creature to life. Blending colours and creating delicate textures, reflecting the unique characteristic of each individual subject.
This style has allowed me to create a portfolio of watercolour animal art, that invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of the animal kingdom while also raising awareness about the need for conservation. With each piece serving as a reminder of the intricate connection between humans and the natural world.
From large scale acrylic paintings, to bespoke pet portraits or wildlife art that provokes deep consideration over wider environmental issues, each painting has its own individual character and a wider story to tell.
